The National Water Resources Board (NWRB), under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), spearheaded the National Water Summit Towards Water Security at Novotel Hotel, Cubao, Quezon, City last March 21, 2019. The event is concurrent with the previous National Water Pre-Summits conducted in 2017, as part of the Memorandum of Agreement signed between NWRB and University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) for the project entitled “Towards a Comprehensive National Plan for Water Security (Roadmap Preparations) and Summit” under the leadership of Drs. Rex Demafelis and Patricia Ann Sanchez, members of the project management team. 

The UPLB Interdisciplinary Studies Center for Water met with representatives of the International Centre for Water Hazard (ICHARM) to discuss research opportunities and possible collaborations on water related topics last February 6, 2019 at the Executive Conference Room, Bienvenido M. Gonzalez Hall, UPLB. During the meeting, Chancellor Fernando Sanchez, Jr. emphasized the importance of water to food security and stressed that ”if there is no water, there will be no agriculture and food”. Chancellor Sanchez further conveyed the need for collaborative works between UPLB and ICHARM towards nation building.

The University of the Philippines Los Baños Interdisciplinary Studies for Water conducted its 2nd Water Forum on urban and rural water last November 12, 2018 at the College of Arts and Sciences Auditorium. With the theme "Urban and Rural Water: Access, Sanitation and Governance", the main objective of the forum is to determine the status and challenges of rural and urban water in the country. National Government Agencies, Local Government Units, International Organization, Non-Government Organization and academe among others attended the forum.
